Accessibility statement

Halloween is for everyone, and this site should be too. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we treat accessibility issues as bugs, not feature requests.
What we’ve built in
- Semantic structure. Proper landmarks, heading hierarchy, and labeled navigation so screen readers can move through pages predictably.
- Alt text on images. Every carving image carries a text alternative based on its title.
- Keyboard support. Navigation, search, forms, and the media carousel are operable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
- Reduced motion. The carving carousel stops auto-rotating for visitors with the reduced-motion preference set, and animations are kept short and purposeful.
- Labeled controls. Buttons and interactive elements (likes, ratings, carousel arrows and dots, moderation actions) have accessible names, and status messages use live regions where it matters.
- No motion or media traps. Videos never autoplay with sound, and nothing on the site flashes.
Known limitations
- Gallery photos are community uploads, so image descriptions are only as good as the titles carvers write. Moderators can improve titles during review, but some descriptions will be thin.
- User-submitted videos don’t currently support captions. Most are short, non-verbal carving clips, but we know that’s not a substitute.
- We haven’t yet completed a full third-party WCAG audit, so consider this a good-faith partial conformance claim, not a certified one.
