Wide-Eyed Owl on a Branch
A magnificent wide-eyed owl perched on a curving branch, rendered in layered relief: feathered brow tufts, a sharp beak, ringed eyes, overlapping wing feathers, and a scalloped breast. Nothing is pierced; the entire portrait is carved by shaving the skin to varying depths so backlight grades from bright to dim across the feathers.
