Step back often to check that both ears feel balanced.

   With a small round brush, paint the nose solid black, then the two eyes as dark ovals. Once dry, dot a tiny speck of white in each eye and a small highlight on the nose to bring the face to life. Add a thin black line for the mouth and a few fine cream whiskers or fur flicks over the brown. Let everything cure fully before moving the pumpkin.

   Seal and stage your portrait

   Brush a light coat of clear matte or satin sealer over the dried paint to protect it from smudges and moisture. Set the pumpkin on an entry table or kitchen counter where the flat face is easy to see. A small LED puck light beside it lifts the colors in the evening without any flame.
