   Run your saw or a small knife back along any ragged edges so the silhouette looks crisp from the street. Wipe the cut faces and rub a little petroleum jelly on the raw edges to slow drying. Set a battery LED puck or a string of warm LEDs inside, never a candle, since the big opening pulls in air and can smother a flame. Aim the light toward the front wall so the shape lights up evenly.

   Place the pumpkin at eye level on a step or table so the joke lands at first glance. Shoot at dusk when the warm cutout glows against the darker skin, just like a golden-hour porch shot.
