Silly Pumpkin Stencils

Silly pumpkin stencils are faces with crossed eyes, stuck-out tongues, lopsided grins, and eyebrows that have wandered off. Big, forgiving shapes make most of them quick to carve, and a wobbly line only adds to the joke.

How to carve a silly pumpkin stencil

Silly faces are mostly large openings, so the wall stays strong and you can use a kit saw for everything. Cut the eyes first, then the nose, then the mouth, and check the expression by holding the pattern up before the final cut. Tongues and single teeth should be at least an inch wide.

Line up several silly pumpkins along the walk, each with a different expression, so visitors get a new face every few steps. They are perfect for a kids' party.

Questions

Silly stencil questions

Are silly stencils a good choice for kids?+

Yes. They are among the easiest faces in the library, with large openings and no fine detail, and the goofy results are exactly what younger carvers want.

How do I make the crossed eyes look right?+

Cut two round eye holes, then leave a solid round pupil in each by cutting a crescent shape instead of a full circle. Point the pupils toward the nose.

How long do silly pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.

Which silly pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+

24 of the 62 are easy, 25 of the 62 are intermediate, 9 of the 62 are hard, 4 of the 62 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.

Pick a silly design, print it, and light up the porch.
