Download the Heart Eyes Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. A classic jack-o-lantern face gets a romantic twist: two heart-shaped cutouts replace the usual triangle eyes, each framed by three curling eyelash strokes, above a wide crescent grin with three rectangular tooth gaps. The design is beginner-level with large, easy-to-cut openings and gentle curves throughout. Cut each heart eye from the inner point downward and around the lobes rather than starting at the curved top, which helps you keep the heart shape symmetrical on the pumpkin's curved surface. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 45-60 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 45-60 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the eyelashes first. Each heart eye has three thin curling lash strokes on its outer side. Saw these narrow slots slowly with the tip of the blade before touching the hearts; they tear if the wall is already weakened.
- Cut both heart eyes. Start at the inner point of each heart, cut down and around both lobes, and finish back at the top notch. Push each plug through gently.
- Cut the triangle nose. Remove the small triangle between the eyes. Work toward each corner from both sides rather than turning the blade in the corner.
- Cut the grin last. The wide crescent smile has square white tooth notches along its edge that must stay attached. Cut carefully around each tooth, leave a short section of the lower lip attached until last, then support the big mouth plug and lift it out.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

IntermediateThe Lovestruck Grin Pumpkin Stencil
Two big heart shaped eyes with curling lash accents beam above a small triangle nose and a wide grin broken by three square teeth. Every shape is cut all the way through, so candlelight pours out of the hearts and the toothy smile. Take the lash flicks slowly with a fine saw, since those narrow tips are the only fiddly part of this medium design.
Beginner-friendlyCrooked Scowler Pumpkin Stencil
Two steeply sloping eyes scowl above a crooked grin holding two chunky square teeth, one notched into the top lip and one into the bottom. The eyes and mouth are pierced through, with the blocky teeth left as shell inside the mouth opening. Cut the outline of each tooth before clearing the rest of the mouth, and the asymmetry of the design means small wobbles only add to the attitude.
Beginner-friendlyThe Grand Grump Pumpkin Stencil
Two fierce slanted triangle eyes glare above a deep downturned crescent frown, turning the whole pumpkin into one magnificent scowl. All three shapes are clean cut-throughs, with the eyes angled sharply inward to sell the anger. This easy carve lives or dies on those angles: keep the inner eye points low and sharp, and cut the frown in one steady arc so the grump reads clearly from across the street.
Beginner-friendlyGoogly Grin Pumpkin Stencil
One round eye and one sideways triangle eye give this pumpkin its delightfully goofy, mid-wink expression, finished with a huge upswept smile and two square teeth hanging from the upper lip. All shapes cut straight through for a bright, cartoonish glow. It is an easy crowd-pleaser; cut around each square tooth carefully, since they stay attached to the top of the mouth, and round off the smile's corners for extra charm.
Beginner-friendlyHollow Eyes Pumpkin Stencil
Two big blank circle eyes stare out beneath short angled brow slits, while the wide mouth is broken into six upright rectangular slots that glow like stitched or fenced-off teeth. Everything is cut through, and the plain round eyes with no pupils give the face its unsettling, vacant charm. The vertical mouth bars keep this an easy carve; cut every slot top-down in the same direction so the strips between them stay straight and even.
Beginner-friendlyLittle Jack Pumpkin Stencil
Sized for small pumpkins, this friendly face uses two triangle eyes, a tiny triangle nose, and a rectangular mouth with two square teeth notched into the top edge. All openings cut straight through, and the compact layout keeps every feature close together so it reads clearly on a little gourd. On thin-walled mini pumpkins, use a fine serrated blade and light pressure to avoid splitting the shell between cuts.
