Download the Jesus Portrait pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. A front-facing portrait of Jesus with long flowing hair, a short beard, and softly rendered facial features fills this expert-level pumpkin stencil. The background and hair are pierced through as large open sections, while thin bridges of solid pumpkin skin form the eyes, nose, and beard details. Lit from inside, the face glows with warmth against the dark cut-out surround. Cut the large hair sections first to ease tension in the skin before tackling the delicate facial feature bridges. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Expert / Pro. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Intricate details and fragile supports need patience. Technique depends on the design; follow its PDF rather than assuming multiple depth layers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Print and tape the stencil to a cleaned, dried pumpkin.
- Pierce-transfer the outline, then remove the paper.
- Cut the large outer hair sections first, working left then right, so the skin relaxes before you reach the face.
- Move to the beard and mustache pieces next; use a thin detail blade and keep each cut continuous to avoid tearing.
- Carefully cut the eyelid and eyebrow shapes last; leave the narrow skin bridges between the eye and the hair intact.
- Place a warm LED candle inside: the glow through the open hair frames the solid face like a halo.

Expert / ProBorder Collie Portrait
A lifelike border collie portrait in profile, with the breed's signature white blaze, alert eyes, and feathered chest fur rendered in layered shading. Nothing is pierced through; you shave away skin at different depths so the pumpkin wall glows in soft gradients, leaving the darkest fur as untouched rind. This is an expert shading pattern, so work in thin passes with a loop tool and step back often to check contrast.
Expert / ProThe Rugged Woodsman Pumpkin Stencil
A bearded man shown from chest up is rendered in this expert pumpkin stencil with fine portrait linework: tousled spiked hair, narrow cut-out lines for expressive eyes with visible irises, a trimmed goatee built from small isolated patches, an open jacket collar, and a table or surface line at the bottom. The face relies on dozens of thin pumpkin bridges to hold the portrait together, creating a detailed likeness when lit. Carve the small goatee patches and eye details first, before the larger jacket and background cuts are made, to keep the face area stable throughout.
AdvancedSunburst Cross Pumpkin Stencil
An ornate flared cross stands at the center of an oval field of sunburst rays that radiate outward to the design's edge. It is carved entirely in continuous-wall relief: the cross is left raised with beveled edges while the rays are shaved to alternating depths so light plays across the whole medallion. This hard shading piece rewards patience, so establish the cross outline deep and clean first, then carve every ray from the cross outward to keep the bevels crisp.
AdvancedSnowy Chick Pumpkin Stencil
A plump baby penguin stands in profile facing right, with a dark head and back, a softly glowing belly, and tiny webbed feet. The design is shaded rather than pierced: you shave the belly and face patches thin so they shine brightly, leave the flipper and back skin dark, and feather the transition between them. Work the big belly area with broad shallow strokes and save the fine downy texture lines for the very end.
AdvancedThe Modern Muse Pumpkin Stencil
An abstract face in a modern-art style: a sweeping brow arc crosses the top, a long straight nose drops down the middle, curled spiral shapes form the cheeks, and short hatch marks add texture beside one eye. Each line is a pierced channel, so the portrait glows as a set of elegant strokes. At hard difficulty the narrow curved channels are the challenge; keep them at least a finger-width and undercut the edges slightly so light spreads.
AdvancedThree Graves Moon Pumpkin Stencil
A moonlit cemetery scene: a huge glowing full moon fills the background while three headstones stand in silhouette, the tall center marker lettered RIP and flanked by two cross-topped stones rising from tufts of grass. The moon area is cut through and the graves are the pumpkin left in place. This is a hard pattern, so cut the big moon opening in several smaller sections to avoid snapping the thin grass blades along the bottom.
