The Scarecrow Face pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. Two large round eyes with small eyebrow hooks above each, a pair of pointed teardrop nostrils, and a wide toothy grin with sharp downward-pointing fangs give this scarecrow face its slightly sinister character on this easy pumpkin stencil. All cut pieces are chunky and well-separated, making this a comfortable carve despite its spooky look. To keep the row of fang tips from chipping, make the two vertical cuts on each fang before the horizontal base cut that frees the piece. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the two teardrop nostrils. Start with the small pointed nostril pair at the center. Cut each one toward its point from both sides while the wall around them is fully supported.
- Cut the round eyes with their brow hooks. Cut each big circle eye together with the thin curved eyebrow hook attached to it. Do the circle first, then follow the hook out to its tip with light strokes; the thin brow tail is the fragile part.
- Cut the grin between the spike teeth. Work around the wide mouth band, cutting each thin tooth spike along its two long sides before freeing its base. Make the vertical cuts on each spike before the cut that releases it, so the tips do not chip.
- Free the mouth corners last. The upswept points at each end of the grin are long and thin. Cut into each point from both edges, then leave a short section of the lower lip attached until last; support the mouth piece as you lift it out.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyBeaming Bliss Pumpkin Stencil
Two upswept crescent eyes squint with joy above an enormous open smile that stretches nearly the full width of the pumpkin, curling up into playful points at each corner. Just three cut-through openings make the whole face, with no nose, teeth, or fragile bits anywhere. This easy design is pure beginner fun; carve the big smile first while the wall is strongest, then the two eye crescents, angling your blade slightly outward so the pieces push free cleanly.
Beginner-friendlyThe Mighty Pout Pumpkin Stencil
Two drooping teardrop eyes slump toward a broad downturned crescent frown, giving this pumpkin the most theatrical pout on the block. All three features are pierced through, and the big simple shapes make it an easy carve with instant comedic payoff. Angle each teardrop eye so both tips point down and outward, and cut the frown from the middle toward each raised corner to keep the curve even.
Beginner-friendlyCrooked Scowler Pumpkin Stencil
Two steeply sloping eyes scowl above a crooked grin holding two chunky square teeth, one notched into the top lip and one into the bottom. The eyes and mouth are pierced through, with the blocky teeth left as shell inside the mouth opening. Cut the outline of each tooth before clearing the rest of the mouth, and the asymmetry of the design means small wobbles only add to the attitude.
Beginner-friendlyThe Grand Grump Pumpkin Stencil
Two fierce slanted triangle eyes glare above a deep downturned crescent frown, turning the whole pumpkin into one magnificent scowl. All three shapes are clean cut-throughs, with the eyes angled sharply inward to sell the anger. This easy carve lives or dies on those angles: keep the inner eye points low and sharp, and cut the frown in one steady arc so the grump reads clearly from across the street.
Beginner-friendlyBashful Blush Pumpkin Stencil
Two big oval eyes glow above a tiny curved smile, with a small round blush circle on each cheek that lights up like a bashful glow. All five features are pierced through, and the shapes are large and simple, making this one of the sweetest easy carves for kids to help with. Cut the little smile last with a fine blade, since that short curve is the only delicate stroke in the whole design.
