Wide Crescent and Short Teeth
The timeless jack-o'-lantern: two triangle eyes, a triangle nose, and a wide crescent grin broken by a few short square teeth left in place. Every shape is a straightforward cut-through, making this an ideal first carve of the season. Cut each triangle in three straight strokes that meet at the corners, and leave the teeth generous so they do not snap off.
Wide Grin and One Broad Tooth
Made for short, squat pumpkins, this goofy face pairs two upswept triangle eyes with an enormous grin interrupted by a single broad tooth hanging from the top lip. The eyes and mouth are cut through, and the tooth is simply a block of shell left in place inside the smile opening. Cut around the tooth carefully on both sides before removing the mouth pieces so it stays firmly attached.
Wide Grin with Three Teeth
One enormous sweeping grin and nothing else: a wide crescent mouth interrupted by two blocky upper teeth and a single lower tooth, with no eyes at all for a mysterious, cheeky effect. The whole smile is cut through, so it pours light across the porch. An easy carve that goes quickly; remove the mouth in left and right halves around the teeth so the tooth tabs never take any strain.
Wink and Barred Square Grin
One huge round eye stares while the other squeezes into a curled wink above a giant open grin packed with blocky square teeth, and freckle dots sprinkle each cheek. The eyes, mouth, and freckles all cut through the wall, with skin bridges left in place to form the teeth. Cut the mouth's outer outline first, then remove the gaps between teeth one at a time so each block stays anchored.
Wink and Five Rounded Gaps
One eye is a jaunty upswept crescent wink while the other stays a wide triangle, set over a small diamond nose and a lopsided grin broken into five rounded gaps by chunky teeth. The eyes, nose, and mouth gaps are cut through, leaving the tooth shapes as attached skin between them. A medium carver should cut the five mouth gaps individually rather than one big mouth, which keeps every tooth solidly connected and the crooked smile intact.
Winking Seven-Tooth Grin
A goofy winking jack-o'-lantern with one wide round eye, one squinting wink, a triangle nose, and an enormous grin broken up by a jumble of square and pointed teeth along both lips. Every feature is cut clean through so the mismatched expression beams from the whole face. At medium difficulty the mouth is the main event; cut the grin outline first, then shape each tooth individually, alternating sides so the lip strips stay supported.
Wrinkled Eyes and Uneven Teeth
A mischievous scowling face with arched eyebrows over round glaring eyes, small wrinkle slits fanning from each eye's outer corner, diamond accents dotting the cheeks, and a sweeping smile packed with uneven square teeth. Every cut pierces through, so light streams from all the details at once. A hard carve where the wrinkle slits are the fussy part; cut those hairline slivers with a detail saw before opening the large eye holes beside them.
