Broomstick Pumpkin Stencils
Broomstick pumpkin stencils show flying witches and brooms crossing the night sky, a cat riding along, and stars trailing behind. The bristle detail rewards a slow, careful cut, while the silhouette versions are quick.

How to carve a broomstick pumpkin stencil
The broom handle is a long thin line: cut it as a narrow slit with a craft knife, or leave it uncut against a cut-through moon. Bristles are best scraped in a fan of short strokes so they glow softer than the sky. If a witch rides the broom, cut the moon behind her and leave her uncut, attached at the broom.
A broomstick pumpkin on the porch next to a real broom leaning against the wall is a simple, complete display.
Questions
Broomstick stencil questions
How do I carve the broom bristles?+
Scrape them. Use a small gouge to lift the skin in a fan of short strokes from the handle outward. Cutting each bristle through would weaken the pumpkin and look messy.
Which broomstick stencil is easiest?+
The witch-on-a-broom silhouette inside a full moon. Cut the moon through and leave the witch and broom uncut; it takes about 45 minutes.
How long do broomstick pumpkin stencils take to carve?+
Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.
