How to carve a graveyard pumpkin stencil
Graveyard scenes are layered: the moon and sky are cut through, the tombstones are left uncut against the glow, and the fog and hills are scraped. Cut the sky in sections between tree branches rather than as one huge opening, keeping the tombstones attached to the ground at their base.
A graveyard pumpkin sits well in front of foam tombstones in the yard, tying the carving to the props around it.
Questions
Graveyard stencil questions
How do I carve fog on a graveyard stencil?+
Do not cut it. Scrape a wavy band along the bottom of the scene with a gouge or spoon, taking off the skin and a little flesh so it glows dimmer than the sky.
Are graveyard scenes difficult?+
They are Medium to Hard. Each element is simple, but there are many and they must stay connected. Give yourself two hours and a craft knife.
How long do graveyard pumpkin stencils take to carve?+
Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.
Which graveyard pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+
2 of the 9 are easy, 3 of the 9 are hard, 4 of the 9 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.
