   Wipe most of the paint off a stiff brush, then flick short strokes along every black-to-white seam, pulling black into white and white into black so the coat looks feathered. Paint the pink tongue, the black nose with two nostril dots, and outline the smiling mouth. Add the brown eyes, then finish with a tiny white paint-pen dot in each eye for that alert, happy spark. Keep highlights small so they read as catchlights, not blank spots.

   Once fully dry, brush or spray on a coat of clear matte or satin sealer to protect the portrait and even out the sheen. Set the pumpkin near a window in soft daylight, as in the pictured scene, to show the fur detail. For evening display, place a battery LED nearby rather than inside, since this design is not carved. Snap your photo straight on so the eyes meet the camera.
