   Using a small carving saw, cut the top, right, and bottom straight edges of the state. Leave the jagged left border and the Yellowstone notch uncut for now so the panel stays supported.    Work the stepped mountain border

   Switch to the tip of a small detail saw and follow the zigzag western edge one short segment at a time. Make each straight step, then turn and make the next, treating the mountains as a series of tiny right angles. Go slowly and let each piece come free before moving on. Finish with the small notch at the bottom where Yellowstone sits, then push the whole shape out gently.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in a bright LED puck or a string of LED lights, never a candle, since the large opening lets you use plenty of light. Set the pumpkin against a dark background so the wide orange window pops. Shoot at dusk for the warm glow shown in the concept image. A second small light inside can even out any dark corners.
