The Specs Appeal pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A classic jack-o-lantern face wearing oversized rectangular glasses makes up this beginner pumpkin stencil. The eyebrow is a wide arched strip across the top, the glasses frame is a connected pair of rectangular loops each containing a circular lens opening, a triangular nose sits below, and a broad grinning mouth with one dripping fang dominates the lower half. The thick glasses frame and face outlines remain solid while the lens circles, nose triangle, and mouth are cut through. Cut the two circular lens openings inside the glasses before the wide mouth, so the frame bridge between the lenses stays firm. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the two round pupils. Start with the circle inside each eye frame. Pierce the center of each and spiral out to the line; keep the white ring around each pupil intact.
- Cut the U-shaped eye frames. Remove the two curved frames that wrap under the pupils. Work each frame from one tip around to the other in steady strokes; the walls between frame and pupil are narrow.
- Cut the browline of the glasses. Take out the long bar across the top. It is one continuous strip; cut the lower wavy edge first, then the top edge, and support the strip near the middle before freeing the ends.
- Cut the triangular nose. Saw each of the three sides toward the corners from both directions so you never force a turn at a point.
- Free the grinning mouth. Cut around the wide smile, working carefully into the two fang notches along its top edge. Leave a short tab on the lower lip until last, support the big plug, then cut the tab and lift the mouth out.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyCrooked Scowler Pumpkin Stencil
Two steeply sloping eyes scowl above a crooked grin holding two chunky square teeth, one notched into the top lip and one into the bottom. The eyes and mouth are pierced through, with the blocky teeth left as shell inside the mouth opening. Cut the outline of each tooth before clearing the rest of the mouth, and the asymmetry of the design means small wobbles only add to the attitude.
Beginner-friendlyThe Grand Grump Pumpkin Stencil
Two fierce slanted triangle eyes glare above a deep downturned crescent frown, turning the whole pumpkin into one magnificent scowl. All three shapes are clean cut-throughs, with the eyes angled sharply inward to sell the anger. This easy carve lives or dies on those angles: keep the inner eye points low and sharp, and cut the frown in one steady arc so the grump reads clearly from across the street.
Beginner-friendlyGoogly Grin Pumpkin Stencil
One round eye and one sideways triangle eye give this pumpkin its delightfully goofy, mid-wink expression, finished with a huge upswept smile and two square teeth hanging from the upper lip. All shapes cut straight through for a bright, cartoonish glow. It is an easy crowd-pleaser; cut around each square tooth carefully, since they stay attached to the top of the mouth, and round off the smile's corners for extra charm.
Beginner-friendlyHollow Eyes Pumpkin Stencil
Two big blank circle eyes stare out beneath short angled brow slits, while the wide mouth is broken into six upright rectangular slots that glow like stitched or fenced-off teeth. Everything is cut through, and the plain round eyes with no pupils give the face its unsettling, vacant charm. The vertical mouth bars keep this an easy carve; cut every slot top-down in the same direction so the strips between them stay straight and even.
Beginner-friendlyLittle Jack Pumpkin Stencil
Sized for small pumpkins, this friendly face uses two triangle eyes, a tiny triangle nose, and a rectangular mouth with two square teeth notched into the top edge. All openings cut straight through, and the compact layout keeps every feature close together so it reads clearly on a little gourd. On thin-walled mini pumpkins, use a fine serrated blade and light pressure to avoid splitting the shell between cuts.
Beginner-friendlyOld Irish Lantern Pumpkin Stencil
A nod to the original Irish lanterns: a simple startled face with two triangle eyes and a small arched mouth, designed to suit a turnip, rutabaga, or small pale pumpkin. All three openings cut straight through the wall. Root vegetables are much denser than pumpkins, so hollow the inside generously first and use short, firm saw strokes; on a regular pumpkin this carves in minutes.
