The Spider pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A large, wide-legged spider dominates this beginner spider pumpkin stencil. Eight straight angular legs radiate from a round body at center, and a small rounded head sits just above the abdomen, both carved as a solid silhouette island connected to the surrounding pumpkin only by the gaps between each leg segment. When lit, the dark spider shape floats against a glowing orange field created by the large open spaces around and between each leg. Start by cutting the long outer leg segments first so the body stays supported until the final cuts. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the thin leg tips first. Each of the eight legs is a separate narrow piece. Start with the slender pointed tips of the lower legs; these are the most fragile cuts, so use slow strokes and never pry.
- Finish the legs pair by pair. Work outward from the body, alternating left and right so you are not leaning on freshly cut areas. Keep the white gaps between the legs and the body intact; they separate each leg from its neighbor.
- Cut the body. Remove the head and body piece in the center, including the small notches on each side and the forked point at the tail. Cut into the notches from both directions.
- Check every point. Go back over the leg joints and sharpen any corner that did not fully release before pushing the pieces through from inside.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlySpider Emblem Pumpkin Stencil
A stylized spider rendered as a graphic emblem fills this easy stencil: the body is split into a large oval abdomen and a smaller rounded head kept solid as orange pumpkin, while the eight legs radiate outward as broad curved blades that taper to sharp points, all backed by cut-out negative space. The overall silhouette has a bold, almost logo-like quality that glows dramatically when lit. Leave the narrow waist bridge connecting the head to the abdomen until last, since removing adjacent leg gaps early can put stress on that small connector.
Beginner-friendlyCrouching Spider Pumpkin Stencil
A large eight-legged spider crouches in full top-down view on this easy Halloween pumpkin stencil, its oval abdomen and round cephalothorax left as solid orange while all the space between the angled legs is pierced through. Eight legs radiate outward and slightly downward from the body, each tapering to a point. The gaps between legs are the cut areas, so work around the spider methodically to avoid accidentally snapping any single leg at its thinnest point near the body junction.
Beginner-friendlySpider Silhouette Pumpkin Stencil
A bold overhead-view spider silhouette with eight long tapering legs and a rounded abdomen below a smaller cephalothorax forms this easy spider pumpkin stencil, the entire body pierced through as one large connected cutout. The legs splay outward symmetrically, spanning nearly the full width of the design. Because the whole shape is one continuous cut, the chief challenge is the narrow neck pinch between the two body sections; cut that junction slowly with a fine blade to keep both halves from separating before you are done.
Beginner-friendlyGrumpy Cartoon Spider Pumpkin Stencil
A chubby cartoon spider with a scowling face fills this easy pumpkin stencil, its round body cut away at the center while the angry brow, fang, and eye pupils remain as uncut pumpkin. Four stubby curved legs arc outward on each side, each one a separate pierced cutout that glows individually when lit. Because the legs are disconnected islands of cuts, carve the body cavity first to anchor your alignment, then cut each leg segment outward so none of the narrow pumpkin bridges between legs get accidentally snapped.
IntermediateRooftop Web Pumpkin Stencil
A natural spider web spans broken rooftop corners. Create a shaded pumpkin with continuous web strands, a two-depth key and individual scraping steps.
IntermediateCreepy Crawler Pumpkin Stencil
A giant spider sprawled across the whole pumpkin face, its oval abdomen and small head flanked by eight long jointed legs that bend at sharp knees. The design uses skin-shave shading only: the spider shape is peeled to the pale flesh while the wall stays whole, so it looms in daylight without any pierced holes. At medium difficulty, score the leg outlines first and peel each segment separately to keep the joints sharp.
