Carving guide
How to carve an animal pumpkin stencil
For a silhouette, cut the whole animal shape through as one opening, working around the outline in short strokes and finishing ears, tails, and legs with a craft knife. For a portrait, cut the eyes and nose through, then scrape the fur or feather texture in short strokes that follow the direction the hair grows.
Animal pumpkins are great for a family porch. Carve the family pet on the biggest pumpkin and let each child pick an animal for a smaller one.
