Download the Witch with Staff pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. A robed witch stands arms wide inside a large circular moon, gripping a tall staff crowned with a starburst, while jagged flame shapes rise from the ground at her feet in this expert-level witch pumpkin stencil. The large moon disc is pierced open, and the witch figure is left as a solid pumpkin-skin silhouette within it, creating a glowing halo effect around her when lit. The staff is the most isolated element, connected to the composition only by a thin wrist bridge, so leave it uncut until every surrounding section is finished. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Expert / Pro. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Intricate details and fragile supports need patience. Technique depends on the design; follow its PDF rather than assuming multiple depth layers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Cut the large circular moon opening first, working in a single continuous arc to keep the cut smooth and even.
- Carve the flame shapes at the base, making short plunge cuts at each pointed tip before connecting them with a sweeping stroke.
- Cut the open negative spaces flanking the witch's robe on each side of her body.
- Carefully cut around the witch's hat, face profile, and curling robe hem, leaving her as a solid skin island inside the moon.
- Finish with the staff: cut the starburst head of the staff first, then trace down the narrow shaft, preserving the thin wrist connection until last.

Expert / ProMoonlit Hag Pumpkin Stencil
A wicked witch in profile fills a glowing full-moon circle, her pointed hat, hooked nose, jutting chin, and two gnarled clawed hands all left in silhouette against the light. The moon disc is cut through around her, so every detail depends on the pumpkin you leave behind. This expert design demands patience: remove the background in small wedges and never lever your blade against the thin fingers, which are the most fragile part.
Expert / ProThe Emberstaff Witch Pumpkin Stencil
A robed witch figure stands holding a tall staff topped with a flame in this expert pumpkin stencil, her pointed hat bearing a spiral curl at the tip and wisps of energy trailing her cloak and pooling at her feet. The design reads as a solid silhouette with strategic interior cuts for the face, flame, and cloak detail, so candlelight halos the entire figure while the fine interior strips glow separately. Keep the narrow bridge connecting the flame to the staff intact until last, as it is the most likely point to snap under blade pressure.
Expert / ProMoonlit Flight Pumpkin Stencil
A witch on a broomstick flies across a full moon in this expert pumpkin stencil, her pointed hat, flowing robes, and broom bristles silhouetted against a circular background of ragged cloud cutouts. The witch figure is solid orange skin set against the large glowing moon disc, and the cloud tears around the moon's edge are pierced through. Carve the small jagged cloud tears around the moon perimeter first, then carefully outline the witch silhouette, leaving her as an uncut island of skin inside the open moon.
Expert / ProWitch Silhouette Pumpkin Stencil
A full-length witch figure stands in this expert pumpkin stencil, crowned by a tall pointed hat with a wide brim, her long flowing robes splitting into jagged tapered strips that trail toward the ground, bony fingers extending from her sleeves, and a curling decorative element at the hem. The design is built from many narrow vertical cut-through strips separated by very thin orange bridges, giving the finished carving an almost lace-like quality when lit. Work from the hat point downward, cutting each robe strip individually before widening cuts near the base where the shapes are broader.
Expert / ProBubbling Witch Cauldron Pumpkin Stencil
A round-bellied witch's cauldron sits on a small tripod base while a large plume of swirling smoke and flame rises above it, branching into curling tendrils with scattered circular bubble cutouts floating free in this witch pumpkin stencil. The cauldron interior is a large open void, the smoke tendrils are narrow pierced ribbons, and each bubble is a tiny individual circle punched through the skin. Cut the cauldron body first, then remove the larger smoke ribbons; leave the small bubble circles for last and use a round drill bit or small gouge to keep them clean.
AdvancedWitch's Brew Pumpkin Stencil
A bubbling witch's cauldron sends three curling plumes of steam up the pumpkin's face, all rendered in carved shading rather than pierced holes. You shave the skin to different depths so the pot, bubbles, and smoke glow in layered tones while the wall stays fully intact. Work the steam swirls shallow and the cauldron mouth deepest to get that lit-from-within brew effect.
