   Using a fine saw blade, cut out the two tall interior openings inside the upper loops. Start each cut in the middle of the panel and work outward to the marked edges so you do not stress the thin ribbon band. Support the waste piece with your free hand and push it inward gently as it releases. Clean the edges with a light bevel angled outward to widen the glow.

   Save the crossover notch and bridge for last

   Carve the small triangle at the crossing point only after the big panels are out and the shape feels stable. Leave a slim bridge of rind between the two lower ribbon tails so they stay connected and do not sag. Cut slowly here, since this tight notch is the most fragile part of the design. If the rind feels soft, keep the bridge a little wider for safety.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in a battery LED, warm white or orange, and set it low so light climbs up through the openings evenly. Skip candles, since the tall interior cuts can trap heat and scorch the rind. Rub a little petroleum jelly on the cut edges to slow drying. Shoot it at dusk on a porch or table so the glow reads against the fading sky.
