Mummy Pumpkin Stencils
Mummy pumpkin stencils use layered bandage strips wrapped across the face with a pair of eyes peeking through. The gaps between the wraps glow beautifully, and the design is forgiving because wobbly bandages look right.

How to carve a mummy pumpkin stencil
The bandages are uncut strips and the gaps between them are the openings. Cut each gap as a long narrow slit that follows the wrap direction, keeping the strips at least half an inch wide. The eyes are two openings inside a larger gap; cut them first. Scrape the strip edges lightly so they look layered.
A mummy pumpkin with a few strips of torn cheesecloth taped to it is a full prop. It pairs with the Frankenstein and Dracula designs in a monster line-up.
Questions
Mummy stencil questions
Are mummy stencils easy to carve?+
Yes. The gaps between bandages are simple slits, and because bandages are meant to look uneven, there is no need for precision. Most are Easy or Medium.
How do I make the bandages look layered?+
Scrape a thin line along one edge of each strip so it looks like it overlaps the strip below. Cut the gaps so they cross at slight angles rather than running parallel.
How long do mummy pumpkin stencils take to carve?+
Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.
