The Pharaoh Death Mask pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. An Egyptian pharaoh death mask stares straight out of this expert pumpkin stencil, showing the broad striped nemes headdress with its pleated side panels and forehead uraeus cobra, plus a detailed face with almond-shaped eyes, straight brows, a defined nose, and a zigzag collar at the neck. The face details are held in thin skin bridges while the headdress stripes and surrounding areas are pierced through. Carve the delicate uraeus cobra at the top first since it is the most isolated element and easiest to cut without torque on neighboring sections. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Expert / Pro. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Intricate details and fragile supports need patience. Technique depends on the design; follow its PDF rather than assuming multiple depth layers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Transfer the full design; pay close attention to the tight spacing of the headdress stripe cuts.
- Start at the top with the small uraeus cobra, cutting its narrow body and head shape before anything else shifts.
- Carve the headdress stripes on each side from top to bottom in sequence, keeping alternating solid and cut strips intact.
- Move to the face: cut the eye outlines and nostril shadow first, then the brow lines.
- Carve the zigzag collar sections at the bottom last, as they anchor the lower design.
- The dense striped headdress glows most dramatically with a candle positioned slightly off-center to cast asymmetric light across the face.

Expert / ProThe Big Gasp Pumpkin Stencil
An ornamental surprised face: two big eyes striped with vertical bars sit beneath fanned brow lines, above a tall oval gasping mouth ringed by a halo of teardrop cutouts. Every bar, fan line, teardrop, and the central oval is pierced through, and the sheer number of narrow slits is what makes this an expert carve. Cut all the fine slits before the big oval, working outward from the center, so the wall keeps its strength as long as possible.
Expert / ProVintage Calavera Pumpkin Stencil
A vintage sugar-skull-style face packed with detail: huge round eyes crossed by curved bars, arching brow flourishes, a diamond nose, ten scalloped tooth slots in a wide grin, and comma-shaped swirls framing the cheeks. Everything is cut through, with slim rind bridges holding the eye bars and tooth dividers in place. As an expert pattern, treat those bridges as sacred; cut away from them, never toward them, and remove waste in small pieces.
Expert / ProCompass Rose Pumpkin Stencil
A layered compass-rose mandala: an eight-point star nests inside a larger star, all wrapped in a ring of carved circles and framed by a shaved border medallion. The entire design is relief work at several depths with no pierced openings, which is why it rates expert. Establish the shallowest background layer first, then step each inner layer progressively deeper so the star points read as crisp raised facets.
Expert / ProMan in the Moon Pumpkin Stencil
A serene man-in-the-moon profile fills a broad crescent, his closed-eye face, nose, and lips sculpted in layered relief within the shaved moon shape, while a single five-pointed star glows beside him. The moon is carved as continuous-wall shading at multiple depths and only the star area is thinned to shine brightest. This expert piece is all about depth control; rough in the crescent first, then sculpt the facial features gradually, checking the glow with a light as you go.
Expert / ProInterwoven Hearts and Leaves
Two large hearts interlock at the center, their outlines woven over and under each other like linked rings, with vine tendrils and autumn leaves flourishing around them. The design is deep relief shading: the background is shaved bright while the woven heart bands stay raised, with no holes pierced. Map the over-under crossings before you carve; keeping the weave consistent is the expert part.
Expert / ProMummy Pumpkin Stencil
A mummy's head and shoulders rise from a base of wrapping strips in this expert pumpkin stencil, the face emerging through layered horizontal and diagonal bandage cut-outs that reveal a single visible eye and a grimacing mouth. The design is dense with interlocking cut shapes separated by thin strips of uncut pumpkin that simulate gauze wrapping. Work from the face outward, completing the eye and mouth details before tackling the long bandage strips so the central features stay stable throughout.
