The The Furious Glare pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. Two swept, blade-like eye shapes angle sharply inward with small notch cutouts at their inner corners, giving the jack-o-lantern an intense furious glare. Below them, a wide zigzag mouth with four sharp points runs the full width of the face. All five pieces are large and open, making this a fast, beginner-friendly carve where the lit pumpkin reads as pure aggression. Cut the two eye shapes before the mouth so you can judge the spacing while the lower pumpkin wall is still fully solid. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 45-60 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 45-60 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the notch in each eye. Start with the narrow slit that hooks into the underside of each slanted eye. Saw into the slit and back out the same way; do not twist the blade at the rounded end.
- Free the two angry eyes. Cut each swooping eye from its thick inner end toward the long outer point. Work the sharp tip from both sides so the point comes out clean.
- Cut the zigzag mouth. The gritted mouth is one long lightning-bolt strip. Cut the top zigzag edge first, then the bottom, meeting at each peak from both directions. Leave a tab at one end, support the strip, then cut it free.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyCrooked Scowler Pumpkin Stencil
Two steeply sloping eyes scowl above a crooked grin holding two chunky square teeth, one notched into the top lip and one into the bottom. The eyes and mouth are pierced through, with the blocky teeth left as shell inside the mouth opening. Cut the outline of each tooth before clearing the rest of the mouth, and the asymmetry of the design means small wobbles only add to the attitude.
Beginner-friendlyThe Grand Grump Pumpkin Stencil
Two fierce slanted triangle eyes glare above a deep downturned crescent frown, turning the whole pumpkin into one magnificent scowl. All three shapes are clean cut-throughs, with the eyes angled sharply inward to sell the anger. This easy carve lives or dies on those angles: keep the inner eye points low and sharp, and cut the frown in one steady arc so the grump reads clearly from across the street.
Beginner-friendlyThe Jagged Menace Pumpkin Stencil
A fierce horror face made of three bold shapes: two sharply slanted eyes that hook downward like angry slashes, and a wide zigzag mouth full of jagged points. Everything is cut through, so the whole face blazes with candlelight and reads clearly from the street. It is an easy carve despite the menacing look; use long straight cuts for each zigzag segment and the aggressive angles practically draw themselves.
Beginner-friendlySilent Glare Pumpkin Stencil
Pure menace in four cuts: two big triangle eyes slanted inward in a hard glare, each topped by a thin detached brow slit angled the same way. All four shapes are cut through, and with no mouth at all the silent stare does the work. This is one of the easiest designs to carve and one of the most effective; keep the brow slits narrow and parallel to the eye tops so the angry angle stays sharp.
Beginner-friendlyMenacing Glowing Eyes
Just two fierce, slanted eyes with curled inner corners, glaring out of an otherwise untouched pumpkin. Both eye shapes are cut fully through, and because there is no nose or mouth, the minimalist glare does all the spooky work after dark. This is a true beginner project: trace carefully, cut each eye in two passes following the hooked curve, and the whole carve is done in under twenty minutes.
Beginner-friendlyZigzag Scowler Pumpkin Stencil
A classic angry jack-o'-lantern face with two sharp slanted eyes, a split two-part nose, and a jagged zigzag frown of pointed teeth. All five openings are cut straight through the wall, leaving the rest of the pumpkin untouched for maximum contrast. It is an easy pattern with only a handful of pieces, so take your time on the zigzag mouth and cut each tooth point cleanly before pushing the waste piece out.
