Download the Flying Saucer pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. A flying saucer pumpkin stencil with a domed upper hull made of stacked horizontal band segments separated by narrow orange ribs, creating a layered effect that suggests a ringed spacecraft in profile. The bands alternate between cut and solid, so when lit the saucer appears to glow with horizontal light stripes rather than as a flat shape. Cut the widest central band first to anchor your position, then work upward band by band toward the dome, keeping each thin rib intact so the layers do not collapse mid-carve. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Expert / Pro. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Intricate details and fragile supports need patience. Technique depends on the design; follow its PDF rather than assuming multiple depth layers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Transfer the stencil and label each horizontal band 1 through 7 from bottom to top so you can track progress.
- Start with the widest band near the center of the saucer hull; this gives you the largest working space first.
- Cut each band in one smooth arc, moving from left to right; a flexible linoleum cutter works better than a straight saw for curved segments.
- After each band is removed, check that the narrow ribs above and below are still firmly attached before moving on.
- Work upward band by band toward the small dome cap, leaving the tiny dome arc for last.
- The undercarriage detail below the widest band has small notched shapes; cut those with a craft knife rather than a saw to avoid splitting the thin pieces.

AdvancedUFO Flying Saucer Pumpkin Stencil
A cartoon flying saucer floats in this hard-difficulty pumpkin stencil, with a domed cockpit at the top showing a simple ghost-like alien face inside. A wide flattened disc body below features a row of oval porthole cutouts around its rim and sweeping curved rings beneath. The alien inside the dome and the porthole ovals are each separate pierced shapes. Cut the dome interior and the alien face details before opening the porthole ovals around the rim, so the dome remains attached and stable while you navigate the narrow disc body.
AdvancedRetro Flying Saucer Pumpkin Stencil
A classic flying saucer seen from a three-quarter angle fills this hard space pumpkin stencil. The domed cockpit on top, the wide flat disc with a raised rim, three small round indicator lights on the underside, and three diverging tractor-beam rays below all read clearly as carved shapes. The beam rays are solid pumpkin strips between large open triangular cutouts, so lit from inside the beam glows as three bright triangular shafts pointing downward. Carve the three beam triangles first since they are the largest open areas, then work upward through the disc details and finish with the small circular indicator lights.
Expert / ProStarlight Ridge Pumpkin Stencil
A crescent moon hangs over rolling hills dotted with pine trees, while dozens of stars and pinprick lights scatter across the sky above the treeline. The entire scene is shaved at varying depths into the pumpkin wall, with the moon and hilltops thinned the most so they glow brightest, and the trees left as dark raised skin. Rough in the hills first, then refine tree silhouettes, and finish with the star pricks last.
Expert / ProDeep Space Dream Pumpkin Stencil
A sweeping spiral galaxy wraps across the entire pumpkin face, its curved arms shaved in graduated depths so the core glows brightest, while three ringed planets and scattered stars orbit the edges in raised relief. Nothing is pierced; every effect comes from continuous-wall shading at different thicknesses. Expert-level patience pays off here: establish the spiral arms as broad shallow bands first, then deepen toward the center in passes to build the luminous gradient.
Expert / ProCosmic Whirl Pumpkin Stencil
A sweeping spiral galaxy with two luminous arms curling around a bright core, surrounded by four-point stars and a scatter of small stardust dots. The entire scene is skin-shave work with no pierced holes: the arms are shaved wide and shallow while the dots and stars are picked out individually. An expert pattern because of its long tapering curves; keep your gouge moving in smooth continuous strokes along each arm.
Expert / ProMan in the Moon Pumpkin Stencil
A serene man-in-the-moon profile fills a broad crescent, his closed-eye face, nose, and lips sculpted in layered relief within the shaved moon shape, while a single five-pointed star glows beside him. The moon is carved as continuous-wall shading at multiple depths and only the star area is thinned to shine brightest. This expert piece is all about depth control; rough in the crescent first, then sculpt the facial features gradually, checking the glow with a light as you go.
