The Haunted Tree pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A gnarled, wind-blown tree trunk splits into wildly curling branches with spiral tips in this hard-rated pumpkin stencil, the entire tree canopy forming a large negative-space cut-out against a small RIP gravestone and a spider-web accent that remain solid. The swirling branch tips are the most delicate cuts in this design; save them for last and use a thin-tipped blade, approaching each spiral from the outside inward so you never cut across a completed curl. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Advanced. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Fine details and narrow supports need careful planning. Follow the cutting and shading key in this designβs PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Cut the large open trunk area first, working from the base up to where the main branch fork begins.
- Carve the mid-section where the branches divide, leaving the solid gravestone shape on the lower left intact.
- Cut the spiderweb lines and star accent in the lower center using a fine blade, scoring each straight web strand before removing the wedge between them.
- Move to the primary curling branch arms, cutting each sweeping arc in one continuous pass to avoid jagged edges.
- Finish with the spiral branch tips: approach each curl from the outer edge inward, keeping your blade angled slightly toward the center of the pumpkin wall to prevent tip blowout.
Tools you'll need
For a advanced carve like this you'll want a fine-detail pumpkin saw, spoon / scoop, pin transfer tool, and small gouge if the pattern includes shading. Here's the kit we reach for, but start with whatever you already own.

Expert / ProSpooky Tree in Moon Pumpkin Stencil
A bare-branched tree fills a full circular moon in this expert-level pumpkin stencil, its trunk and sweeping limbs carved away while dozens of tight spiral curls on every branch tip remain as solid orange bridges. The lit jack-o-lantern shows the curled branch ends glowing like tiny flames against the open black sky of the moon circle. Tackle the small spiral cuts at the outermost branch tips before removing any large background sections, so the sheet stays supported while you work the most delicate shapes.
Expert / ProThe Grumbling Oak Pumpkin Stencil
A gnarled, bare-branched haunted tree with an angry face hidden in its trunk dominates this expert-level pumpkin stencil, its dozens of thin branch tips and the snarling mouth and eye details forming an intricate web of cuts. When lit, the branching silhouette glows against the pumpkin's skin with dozens of narrow passages of light. Work from the outermost branch tips inward toward the trunk face so the stencil sheet holds its shape while you cut the trickiest inner details last.
Expert / ProTwisted Haunted Tree Pumpkin Stencil
A twisted, leaning haunted tree with gnarled branch-arms, a hollow face cavity with two small round eye holes, and exposed root tendrils sprawling across the ground makes up this expert tree pumpkin stencil. The writhing upper branches and root fingers are each narrow separate cuts, while the face hollow is the main open void at the center. Carve the largest root sections at the base first since they anchor the lower design, then progress upward through the arm-branches, leaving the thin finger-tip branches and the tiny eye circles for last.
Expert / ProDemon Tree Pumpkin Stencil
A demonic tree creature roars from this expert pumpkin stencil: a gnarled trunk rises from spreading roots, branching into twisted limbs with curling twig tendrils, while a menacing face with jagged saw-tooth teeth and hollow eye cavities glares from the center. Dozens of thin, curving cut sections radiate outward, separated by very narrow orange bridges. Work from the outermost twig tips inward toward the central face to avoid snapping the thin outer branches while the interior is still supported.
Expert / ProSpooky Tree Face Pumpkin Stencil
A gnarled, bare tree with an angry face carved into its trunk fills this expert pumpkin stencil. Dozens of branching limbs spread across the upper half, tapering into fine tips, while the lower trunk reveals a grimacing face with heavy brow, sunken eye sockets, and a roaring open mouth. The many thin branch tips and the narrow spaces between limbs make this one of the most demanding cuts in any tree pumpkin stencil design. Start from the outermost branch tips and work inward toward the trunk so the fine ends are cut while the wall is still fully supported.
Expert / ProMonster Tree Pumpkin Stencil
A menacing anthropomorphic tree creature with clawed outstretched arms, a roaring jagged-toothed mouth, and swirling branch-tentacle hair stands silhouetted inside a large circular moon in this expert pumpkin stencil. The entire moon disc interior is cut away and glows with light, while the creature silhouette and the area outside the moon ring remain as solid pumpkin skin. The swirling hair tendrils at the top create the finest detail against the glowing backdrop. Cut those wispy curling tips before clearing the large moon interior, to avoid cracking the delicate spiral ends once the surrounding wall is weakened.
