This free Octopus Face pumpkin stencil is a printable PDF pattern you can print at home, tape to your pumpkin, and trace. A stylized cartoon octopus face fills this hard pumpkin stencil with a nearly circular head outline, two large round eyes with lash-like detail above them, a central beak-like nose bridge, and a decorative lower section featuring a symmetrical arch with layered cutwork and scalloped tentacle bases on each side. The round eyes are solid islands of pumpkin skin that must be preserved while the surrounding face is cut away. Carve the outer circular head arc first, then remove the face background working around the solid eye discs, and finish with the fine scalloped cuts at the bottom. Use it as a carving template for your Halloween jack-o'-lantern. It is rated Advanced. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Fine details and narrow supports need careful planning. Follow the cutting and shading key in this designβs PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Thin the pumpkin wall to about 1/2 inch across the full design; the scalloped lower details need a responsive blade.
- Carve the partial outer circle of the head, leaving a small gap at the top where the stencil indicates a break.
- Remove the large background areas of the face, working around both round eye islands without cutting into them.
- Cut the lash details above each eye using short angled strokes toward the eye disc, stopping cleanly at the boundary.
- Carve the central beak/nose bridge cutwork, following the curved outline carefully.
- Finish with the scalloped tentacle-base pieces at the lower sides; their small repeated arcs are easiest with a narrow pointed blade making individual plunge cuts for each scallop.

AdvancedThe Mystic Gaze Pumpkin Stencil
Two huge almond eyes stare straight out, each ringed by fanned lash bars above and a spray of teardrop cuts below, with attached pupils floating in the centers. The eye whites, brow strokes, and roughly twenty teardrops are all pierced, leaving the pupils and lash ribs as connected shell. This one earns its hard rating on the thin lash bars, so cut every slot outward from the eye and support the wall with your palm.
AdvancedThe Postcard Grin Pumpkin Stencil
Arched triple line brows curl above big eyes divided by rind bars, a long triangle nose drops between them, and a huge grin shows a full row of rounded teeth with dotted curlicue accents swirling at each cheek. All the openings are cut through in a cheerful retro style straight off an old holiday postcard. Rated hard for its many small dots and thin brow lines, it rewards a fine detail saw and a drill for the dots.
AdvancedThe Serrated Smile Pumpkin Stencil
This wicked traditional face stacks barred triangle eyes with heavy slanted brows above a huge serrated grin, then flanks the mouth with rows of small wedge and diamond accents across both cheeks. Everything is cut through, and the eye bars are thin strips of shell left inside each triangle. Cut on both sides of each eye bar before removing the surrounding pieces, and save the tiny cheek diamonds for last.
AdvancedThe Stitched Stare Pumpkin Stencil
Two enormous wide eyes with hanging pupils stare beneath crackling zigzag brows, while small skull nostrils sit above a long stitched grin that stretches nearly ear to ear. The eyes are cut through around the drooping pupil tabs, the nostrils are pierced, and the mouth is one thin line crossed by vertical stitch slits. Those dangling pupils and skinny stitches make this a hard carve; keep every stitch cut short and support the pupil tabs while you saw around them.
AdvancedThe Starstruck Smiler Pumpkin Stencil
A crown of small four-point stars sparkles around the top of this face, while two big playful eyes with attached pupil tabs sit over a wide grin lined with little teeth. Everything is cut through, and the pupils survive as tabs rooted to the top of each eye opening. Carve the star crown first while the wall is strongest, then cut each eye around its pupil tab in small strokes so the tabs stay put.
AdvancedOld Mischief Pumpkin Stencil
A mischievous scowling face with arched eyebrows over round glaring eyes, small wrinkle slits fanning from each eye's outer corner, diamond accents dotting the cheeks, and a sweeping smile packed with uneven square teeth. Every cut pierces through, so light streams from all the details at once. A hard carve where the wrinkle slits are the fussy part; cut those hairline slivers with a detail saw before opening the large eye holes beside them.
