How long will the carved pumpkin last?▾
Usually 5–10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and double the lifespan.

What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?▾
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Print and tape the stencil, centering the rat's body on the widest part of the pumpkin.
- Pierce and cut the whisker lines first using a fine detail blade, working from the snout outward on each side so the stencil sheet stays anchored.
- Cut the body silhouette next, working from the head downward through the torso.
- Carve the clawed feet and the base of the tail, keeping the tail tip attached to the body outline until the very end.
- Free the tail tip last with a single clean cut, then remove the piece carefully to avoid cracking the narrow end.
- Light with a tea-light set low so the glow frames the full outline of the rat rather than flooding only the center.
