This free Unicorn pumpkin stencil is a printable PDF pattern you can print at home, tape to your pumpkin, and trace. A unicorn head in profile fills this beginner pumpkin stencil as a single clean silhouette: the long curved horn, a flowing mane with jagged spiky edges along the neck, and a graceful muzzle. The entire design is carved as one connected open shape so the lit jack-o-lantern shows the full unicorn outline glowing as a bright cutout. The jagged mane edge along the top of the neck creates a row of shallow points that can break if the blade wanders. Keep cuts on the mane tips short and angled directly inward toward the center mass to avoid snapping the narrow points. Use it as a carving template for your Halloween jack-o'-lantern. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 45-60 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 45-60 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the spiral horn first. Start at the horn tip and saw down each side, easing through the small ridges of the spiral. The horn is the thinnest part of the design, so keep pressure light.
- Cut the mane spikes. Work along the back of the neck, cutting into each of the mane points from both sides so the tips come out crisp. Include the forelock spike between the horn and the ears.
- Shape the face and jaw. Cut the muzzle, the small chin curve, and the throat line in steady strokes.
- Release the head. Finish the long chest and neck lines, leaving a short tab at the base of the neck. Support the big plug, cut the tab, and push the piece out from inside the pumpkin.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyMoonbeam Unicorn Pumpkin Stencil
A graceful unicorn head in profile, complete with a spiral horn, an alert ear, and a flowing mane that ends in four swooping points down the neck. The whole silhouette is cut through as one large opening, so the entire unicorn glows against the dark pumpkin. It is an easy carve despite its size; remove the big piece in two or three sections instead of forcing it out whole.
AdvancedUnicorn Head Pumpkin Stencil
A unicorn head in three-quarter profile faces left with eyes gently closed and long lashes visible, a segmented spiraling horn at the brow, small round nostrils, and a flowing mane of long layered strands cascading to the right on this hard pumpkin stencil. The mane strands are narrow parallel ribbons of solid skin separated by pierced channels. Cut the large open head silhouette first, then carve each mane ribbon from its base at the neck upward so the tapered strand tips are the very last cuts and never lose support.
