Download the Witch Hat Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. A grinning jack-o-lantern face wearing a small pointed witch hat sits at the center of this easy funny pumpkin stencil. The face features two large crescent-shaped eyes with small round highlight dots inside each, a triangular nose, a wide upward-curving mouth with a center tooth drip, and wispy curl accents at the cheek corners. The hat brim and crown are solid while the eye crescents, nose, and mouth are cut through. Carve the two small round eye-highlight dots before removing the larger crescent eye shapes so those tiny circles stay intact and the eye reads with dimension when lit. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the eye crescents. Each eye is a crescent wrapped over a round white pupil bump. Cut around the white bump carefully; that circle stays attached and gives the eyes their sparkle. Do the small accent oval and curved mark near the top right the same way.
- Carve the nose and stem. Cut the angular chevron nose between the eyes, then the tilted pointed stem at the top of the head.
- Open the big grin. Cut the wide smile, working around the rounded lower lip lobe at the bottom center. Leave a short section of the lower edge attached until last, then support the piece and lift it out.
- Cut the outline arcs last. Remove the long curved arcs that frame the left and right sides of the pumpkin face, sawing toward each thin pointed tip from both directions. These sweeping slivers are fragile, so support each strip as it comes free and never pry.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyThe Crooked Witch Hat Pumpkin Stencil
A classic witch hat fills the pumpkin face, its tall crown bending over at the tip above a broad, gently curved brim. The whole hat is removed as one pierced piece, making a big bright silhouette with no interior details to fuss over. As an easy single-cut design, just keep your blade angled slightly inward as you saw so the large panel pulls free without wedging.
Beginner-friendlyWitch Hat Pumpkin Stencil
This witch-hat pumpkin stencil reduces the classic Halloween icon to its boldest shapes: a wide, wavy brim in two swooping cut-out bands, a trapezoidal crown, and a tight spiral curl at the hat's tip. The large open areas mean the design reads clearly even on a small pumpkin, and the lit result is a silhouette-style hat floating against glowing orange. Cut the lower brim band first, then the upper brim, and finally the crown, so the spiral finial stays supported until the end.
IntermediateWindswept Witch Pumpkin Stencil
A witch in a pointed hat rides her broom across the pumpkin, cloak trailing and broom bristles brushed out to the left as one bold glowing silhouette. The entire figure is cut through as a single connected opening, so the drama comes from the outline rather than fine interior detail. For this medium carve, start with the big body mass and work outward, cutting the hat point and individual bristle tips last so the surrounding rind supports your blade the whole way.
IntermediateThe Bewitched Hat Pumpkin Stencil
A tall witch hat with a jauntily bent tip glows from the pumpkin, its wide oval brim carved as a separate opening beneath the crown so the solid hatband reads as a dark stripe between them. Around the hat, small circles and diamonds sparkle like scattered magic. This medium design hinges on that hatband bridge; cut the crown and brim as two independent openings and never saw across the band, then finish with the little sparkle shapes using a drill and detail knife.
IntermediateWitchy Whiskers Pumpkin Stencil
A cat's head wearing a floppy witch hat, carved as one connected glowing shape with the hat brim flaring wide and the tip curling over. Pointed whisker cuts flick out from each cheek, and the whole silhouette is cut through so it lights up as a single bold window. A manageable medium carve; the curl at the hat tip is the trickiest sliver, so saw it slowly and support the rind with your free hand.
