How to carve a trees pumpkin stencil
Cut the trunk through as one opening and work up into the thick branches, stopping where they get narrower than a third of an inch. Scrape the finest twigs instead of cutting them. A moon behind the branches is cut through last, with the branches crossing it left uncut and attached at both ends.
A dead tree pumpkin beside a real bare branch stuck in a planter is an instant spooky vignette. Add a small owl or crow pumpkin for company.

How do I carve thin tree branches without them breaking?+
Do not cut anything narrower than a third of an inch. Cut the trunk and main limbs through, then scrape the finer branches and twigs so they glow softly without opening the wall.
Which tree stencil is easiest?+
The bare tree silhouette in front of a full moon. Cut the moon through and leave the tree uncut inside it; the tree does the work and the moon provides the glow.
