Thin gradually and recheck; you can always remove more but you cannot put pumpkin back. Stop while the eyes still hold their shape and do not blow out into open holes.

   Seal, light, and photograph

   Rub a thin coat of petroleum jelly over the cut surfaces to slow drying and keep the tones warm. Set the finished pumpkin on the porch with the amber LED inside for that bronze fur glow. Shoot your photo at dusk or full dark so the shading reads clearly against the shadows. Refresh or refrigerate the pumpkin overnight to make the portrait last longer.
