Save the single biggest opening for last so the wall stays rigid as long as possible.

   Clean edges and shade the tail

   Trim any ragged edges by re-running the saw along the cut lines, angling the blade slightly outward so light spreads as it exits. For a soft two-tone look, peel just the skin off the bushy tail area to make it glow a dimmer orange against the fully cut body. Dab a spot of the eye with the skin left on so it reads as a dark dot. Wipe away marker lines with a damp cloth.

   Light it and stage the photo

   Set a battery LED or a string of warm LEDs inside, never a candle, since the thin bridges can scorch and dry out fast. Place the pumpkin on a wood step and surround it with real or faux mums and a scatter of fall leaves to lean into the woodland theme. Shoot at dusk when the glow reads strongest against the darker background. A little petroleum jelly on the cut edges slows drying if you want it to last a few extra days.
