   Etch the stripes and fluffy tail

   Switch to a V-gouge to scratch the crisp back stripes, dragging steady shallow lines. For the tail, make many light overlapping strokes to suggest fur rather than one solid area. Leave thin ridges of unpeeled skin between strokes so the tail keeps texture and does not turn into one flat glow. Add fine lines for whiskers and the eye highlight last.

   Light it and photograph at dusk

   Drop a warm-toned LED inside and set the pumpkin on a bench near fall mums. View it in low light to spot any spots that need a touch more peeling for balance. If the surface dries out over a few days, a quick wipe with a damp cloth revives the glow. Take your photo at dusk when the etching shows best against the dark yard.
