   Start with the little toe pads at the top of each paw, since small cuts are easiest while the pumpkin is still solid. Hold your pumpkin saw straight in and out, letting the blade do the work rather than forcing it. Gently push each piece inward or outward once it is free. Cutting the smallest shapes early means the wall stays strong for the bigger openings to come.

   Cut the large paw pads

   Move to the two large main pads below the toes. Keep each one as a smooth rounded triangle and take your time on the curves. Leave a comfortable band of uncut skin between the toe pads and the main pad so each paw reads as separate pieces. Clear any ragged edges with a light pass of the saw.

   Cut the dog bone last

   Save the big bone opening for the end because it removes the most material. Cut the two rounded knobs on each end first, then connect them with the straight middle bar so the shape holds together as you work. Support the piece with your free hand as it comes loose.    Drop a battery LED puck or string inside and switch it on in a dark room to check the glow. If any shape looks dim, scrape a little more from the inside wall behind it.
