   Cut the exhaust stacks and mid shapes

   Move to the two tall vertical stacks and the mid-body rectangles of the hood and sleeper. Keep a thin bridge of rind between neighboring windows so the wall does not sag or tear. Cut the long thin stacks in short sections rather than one long pull to avoid cracking. Work from the center outward so you always have solid pumpkin to brace against.

   Open the large cab window last

   Save the big rectangular cab opening for the end, since it removes the most material at once. Score the outline fully, then cut it in a few connected passes and support the piece with your hand as it releases. Clean up all the edges with a small detail blade so each shape reads sharp. Trim the inside back edge of a few openings at an angle to let more light escape.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in a battery LED puck or a string of LED lights, never a candle, since this many openings needs even, safe light. Set the pumpkin on a fall table runner and shoot at dusk when the sky still holds a little blue. Rotate the light around inside until the wheels and cab all glow evenly. Wipe the cut edges dry and add a little petroleum jelly to slow shrinking.
