   Remove the two main openings

   Now cut fully through the two lens shaped halves of the football on either side of the laces, plus the short curved seam lines at each tip. Cut big pieces out in smaller sections so the shell does not crack under its own weight. Keep the blade angled slightly outward to widen the hole toward the inside, which throws more light. Test fit as you go and tidy the edges with the tip of your tool.

   Light it and stage it

   Drop in a battery LED tea light or a small LED puck, never a candle, and set the brightness so the laces stand out crisp. Place the pumpkin on the front steps with the porch light off for the strongest glow. Add mums, a doormat, or a few leaves for that game day porch look. Snap your photo at dusk when the sky still has a little color behind the orange light.
