   Save the true cutouts for last so the pumpkin stays sturdy while you shade. Cut the open smiling mouth and the tongue shape all the way through for the brightest glow, then cut through the bone. Leave a couple of small uncut bridges where the paws overlap the bone so those shapes stay attached and hold their form. Clean the cut edges with a gentle bevel so light spreads smoothly.

   Set a warm white LED puck light inside through the bottom opening and never use a candle, since the thin shaded wall can scorch. Mist the cut edges with water and store the pumpkin somewhere cool between showings to slow drying.
