   Now cut away the background inside the ring so the monster is left as dark skin. Work outward from the monster in small arcs rather than one long cut, and save the widest openings for last so the shape stays rigid.    Peel a soft halo if you want dimension

   For extra depth, use a lino or ribbon tool to skin-peel a thin ring just inside the circle border, or peel a faint outline around the monster. Removing only the top layer lets that zone glow a dim orange between the dark skin and the bright cutouts. Go slow and keep the depth even so the halo looks intentional. This step is optional and the design still works as a clean two-level silhouette.

   Light it and take the photo

   Set a battery LED puck or string inside rather than a candle, since the wide open circle pulls in wind and the thin wall can scorch. Position the light low and toward the front so the amber circle fills evenly and the monster stays a solid shadow. Rub a little petroleum jelly on cut edges to slow drying. Shoot at dusk on a step or brick so the warm glow stands out against the blue evening light.
