   Saw out the single opening

   Using a fine pumpkin saw, cut along your scored line with slow, steady strokes and let the blade do the work. Support the piece with your free hand so it does not crack loose early, and push the cutout gently inward when you finish. Because there are no fragile bridges, you can carve the full shape in one pass. Trim any ragged spots from the back to sharpen the edge.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in a battery LED puck or string, never a candle, and center it low so the glow spreads evenly across the wide opening. Set the pumpkin on a porch table with mums or fall leaves nearby for a cozy scene. Shoot at dusk so the warm interior reads bright against the darker skin. Rotate the light if one side looks dim.
