Work slowly and keep the peel shallow so you do not accidentally cut through.

   Cut the brightest openings

   Once your shading is done, cut fully through the chest, the tucked paws, and the rounded haunch where the design should glow strongest. Keep these openings clean and rounded to match the soft body shape. Cut the inner ear opening too, but leave a thin bridge of skin so the ear stays attached and structurally sound. Save these full cutouts for last so the pumpkin stays sturdy while you shade.

   Scratch the whiskers as single lines

   For the whiskers, use the tip of a small detail knife or a lino V-tool to scratch shallow single lines fanning out from the muzzle. Do not cut all the way through, since deep whisker cuts weaken and tear easily. One confident stroke per whisker looks cleaner than several nervous passes. Add a few fine fur flicks along the cheek the same way.

   Light it and set it by the door

   Drop in a battery LED tea light or a small LED puck and settle it near the chest so the brightest cutouts catch the most light. Never use an open flame, since the thin shaded areas can scorch. Set the finished pumpkin low beside the door where its small scale feels lifelike. Snap your photo at dusk when the glow reads best against the shadows.
