How to carve a skull pumpkin stencil
The sockets are the biggest openings, so cut the nose triangle and the teeth first while the wall is strong, then the sockets. Teeth are cut as a row of small rectangles with thin bridges between; use a knife for the bridges. Cracks across the cranium are scraped lines, not cuts.
Skull pumpkins are a natural pair on either side of a door, or in a pile on the step with a few plastic bones. They fit gothic and pirate displays too.
Questions
Skull stencil questions
How do I carve the teeth on a skull stencil?+
Cut the mouth area as a row of small rectangular openings, leaving a thin bridge of pumpkin between each. Cut the bridges with a craft knife after the rectangles so they stay straight.
Which skull stencils are easiest?+
The cartoon skull with two round sockets and a simple grin is Easy. Anatomical skulls with scraped cracks and individual teeth are Hard.
How long do skull pumpkin stencils take to carve?+
Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.
