Spider Pumpkin Stencils

Spider pumpkin stencils include dangling spiders, crawling legs reaching over the rim, and webs radiating across the pumpkin. Thin legs call for a steady hand, so carve them slowly, but a big fat body with eight glowing eyes is a fast, fun design.

How to carve a spider pumpkin stencil

Legs are the challenge. Cut each leg as a thin tapering slit from the body outward and stop a little short of the pattern's end so the point does not break. Cut legs on alternating sides rather than all on one side. The body is a big oval; cut it last. Webs are radiating lines with connecting arcs; cut the arcs first, then the spokes.

Hang a plastic spider on a thread above the carved one, or set the pumpkin in the corner of the porch where a real web would be. It pairs with any spooky design.

Questions

Spider stencil questions

How do I stop spider legs from breaking when I carve them?+

Keep each leg a thin slit rather than a wide opening, cut them from the body outward, and alternate sides so you never weaken one area. Toothpicks can pin a broken leg back on.

Is a spider web stencil hard to carve?+

It is Medium. The lines are easy individually, but there are many of them and they must stay connected to hold the wall together. Cut the curved connectors before the straight spokes.

How long do spider pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.

Which spider pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+

5 of the 11 are easy, 3 of the 11 are intermediate, 2 of the 11 are hard, 1 of the 11 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.

Pick a spider design, print it, and light up the porch.
