The Rocket Ship pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A retro rocket ship blasts off inside a circular porthole frame in this space pumpkin stencil. The rocket has a pointed nose cone, a round porthole window on its body, swept-back tail fins, and a fan of exhaust flames spreading beneath it, all set within a large open circular border. The rocket body and circle frame remain as solid pumpkin skin while the background inside the circle, the fin gaps, and the flame tongues are cut through. Cut the narrow gaps between the individual flame tongues first so the lower rocket structure stays intact before the large circular background is removed. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Advanced. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Fine details and narrow supports need careful planning. Follow the cutting and shading key in this designβs PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Transfer the stencil, giving special attention to the circular outer frame and the flame-tongue gaps at the base.
- Score and cut the narrow gaps between the individual flame tongues first, working from the center outward.
- Cut the gap between each tail fin, preserving the rocket body as a connected piece.
- Open the round porthole on the rocket body.
- Cut the nose cone triangle at the very top of the circle.
- Remove the large circular background area last; this single large cutout provides most of the glow and should be saved until all fine details are secure.
Tools you'll need
For a advanced carve like this you'll want a fine-detail pumpkin saw, spoon / scoop, pin transfer tool, and small gouge if the pattern includes shading. Here's the kit we reach for, but start with whatever you already own.

Beginner-friendlyBlast Off Pumpkin Stencil
A chunky rocket blasts diagonally upward with a flickering flame bursting from its tail and three round dots floating alongside like distant planets. The rocket body, fins, flame, and dots are each cut fully through, and the gap between the ship and its flame creates a fun sense of motion. Cut the flame's wavy points carefully with short strokes, since those narrow tips are the most fragile part.
AdvancedCompass Star & Moon Phases
An eight-pointed compass star anchors the center while a ring of moon phases and beaded dots circles around it, from thin crescents to a full glowing disc. The star's facets and the ring are shaved at varying depths into the skin, with only the deepest moon discs approaching full brightness, giving the design a layered lantern glow. Map your depths first: shallow for the star facets, deeper for each moon as it waxes.
AdvancedUFO Flying Saucer Pumpkin Stencil
A cartoon flying saucer floats in this hard-difficulty pumpkin stencil, with a domed cockpit at the top showing a simple ghost-like alien face inside. A wide flattened disc body below features a row of oval porthole cutouts around its rim and sweeping curved rings beneath. The alien inside the dome and the porthole ovals are each separate pierced shapes. Cut the dome interior and the alien face details before opening the porthole ovals around the rim, so the dome remains attached and stable while you navigate the narrow disc body.
Beginner-friendlyRocket and Stars Pumpkin Stencil
A retro rocket ship blasting diagonally upward through a field of five-pointed stars fills this easy pumpkin stencil. The rocket body is a large solid pierce-through with a small circular porthole cut from its center, and two swept fins angle beneath it; six stars of varying sizes are scattered across the field. Lit from within, the rocket and stars all glow as bright cut-out shapes. Cut the small circular porthole in the rocket body before removing the rocket silhouette itself, since that circle is far easier to score cleanly while the surrounding wall has full support.
AdvancedRetro Flying Saucer Pumpkin Stencil
A classic flying saucer seen from a three-quarter angle fills this hard space pumpkin stencil. The domed cockpit on top, the wide flat disc with a raised rim, three small round indicator lights on the underside, and three diverging tractor-beam rays below all read clearly as carved shapes. The beam rays are solid pumpkin strips between large open triangular cutouts, so lit from inside the beam glows as three bright triangular shafts pointing downward. Carve the three beam triangles first since they are the largest open areas, then work upward through the disc details and finish with the small circular indicator lights.
AdvancedAlien in Asteroid Pumpkin Stencil
A baby alien character sits inside a rough oval asteroid, hugging its knees: the alien's large oval head with dark recessed eyes pokes out the top of the rock, tiny three-fingered hands reach forward, and small star-burst shapes float to either side suggesting space debris. The jagged asteroid rim forms the outer boundary of the cut. Lit from inside, the alien face and hands glow within the rocky frame while the star shapes create a scattered secondary light. Cut the alien face details inside the head first before removing the large asteroid-rim opening, so the head structure is supported during the finer cuts.
