Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
Print both pages at 100% / Actual Size and check the one-inch ruler. The artwork box is 7 x 7 inches.
Carving key
White / K: leave skin and flesh intact. Dark / C: cut through with a pumpkin saw. Shading is not used. C marks a cutting area, not a work-order number. Fine contours and narrow connections require care; support plugs rather than prying.
1. Open the clash sparks
Cut the four separate sparks first. Approach each pointed end from both sides rather than forcing the saw around the tip.
2. Work around the grips
Cut the separate grip and collar sections. Preserve every white band between them and the open notch in the left collar.
3. Cut the crossed blades
Follow the long rounded blade contours. Keep the diagonal white gap at the crossing intact; do not join the two weapons.
4. Release the broad blade plugs
Support each long plug before removing its final tab. Inspect the crossing and grip gaps; do not enlarge flagged narrow areas.
Previews are simulated. This design has not been physically test-carved. Narrow-area checks remain unresolved; this detailed pattern requires careful cutting.
