The Two Maple Leaves pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. Two maple leaves are shown on the same stencil sheet, stacked vertically: the upper leaf faces right with its stem pointing up, the lower leaf faces left with its stem trailing down. Both are cut as single solid silhouettes with the pointed maple-lobe edges forming the outline. Lit from inside, the two glowing leaf shapes overlap slightly at center, giving the pumpkin a layered, scattered-leaves feel. Carve the upper leaf first and fully remove it before starting the lower leaf so the two openings don't inadvertently merge along their closest edges. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the dark numbered regions on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The numbers give you the safest carving order, and the steps below walk through them one by one. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Carve the lower leaf points. Begin region 1 around the smaller lower maple leaf. Use short cuts on the jagged lobes and leave its narrow left-reaching stem until the larger leaf outline is complete.
- Carve the upper leaf points. Cut region 2 around the larger upper leaf. Preserve the white strip between the leaves. Approach pointed corners from both sides and keep the long upward stem supported.
- Finish both slender stems. Complete the stem boundaries of regions 1 and 2. Support each leaf plug and release its last short tab gently. Keep the leaves as separate openings rather than joining the gap between them.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every region is open, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyBroad Autumn Leaf
A single broad maple-style leaf glows from the pumpkin's face, its rounded lobes and short stem cut fully through as one connected opening. The design leans seasonal rather than spooky, making it a lovely choice for fall porches from October through Thanksgiving. As an easy one-piece cutout, just poke transfer dots along the lobed outline, saw slowly around each curve, and push the waste piece out from inside in a single pop.
Beginner-friendlyMaple Leaf Pumpkin Stencil
A single large maple leaf fills most of the stencil, tilted slightly to the right with its stem curving down and left. The leaf has seven pointed lobes with gently serrated edges and a central vein ridge left solid, creating a two-section open cut on each side of the midrib. Lit from inside, the two halves of the leaf glow symmetrically while the narrow central vein remains as an unlit orange line. Keeping that vein bridge intact is the key structural challenge: cut the left lobe section completely before moving to the right so you're never cutting beside an already-open neighbor.
IntermediateDeer Trail Pumpkin Stencil
Two split deer hoofprints, each with a pair of dewclaw dots beneath, share the pumpkin with a lobed oak leaf and a few scattered accent dots for a woodsy, cabin-porch feel. Every track, dot, and the leaf is fully cut through with plenty of solid skin between elements. It is a comfortable medium carve; poke a starter hole in each small dot and cut those first, since tiny circles are easiest while the surrounding wall is still rigid.
IntermediateLaurel Wreath Glow Pumpkin Stencil
Fifteen almond-shaped leaves sweep upward in two mirrored arcs, curving around the pumpkin's face like a laurel wreath opening toward the stem. Each leaf is cut fully through, so the whole design becomes an elegant pierced lantern with no face at all. Alternate sides as you cut, removing one leaf on the left and then its mirror on the right, to keep the wall's strength balanced throughout.
IntermediateOak Leaf Tumble Pumpkin Stencil
Two oak leaves of different sizes drift diagonally across the pumpkin, their lobed edges captured in crisp detail. Both leaves are cut fully through the wall, so each one glows like a lantern-lit leaf caught mid-fall. This medium design's challenge is the wavy lobed outline, so use a fine-tooth saw and pivot at every lobe notch, removing each leaf in two or three pieces instead of forcing out one large chunk.
IntermediateMaple Drift Pumpkin Stencil
Three maple leaves drift diagonally down the pumpkin, each one cut fully through with its stem, and small round holes scattered between them like floating seeds. The pierced leaves throw crisp, recognizable maple silhouettes of light, making this a lovely all-autumn design rather than a strictly Halloween one. Saw each leaf point from the tip inward and remove the waste in sections so the notched edges stay sharp.
