You can shave those bridges thinner later or leave them, as they nearly disappear once the pumpkin is lit.

   Cut the head, legs, and body

   Move down to the head and neck, then the slim legs, cutting these narrow areas before the large body so the wall stays rigid. Keep the space between the front and back legs as a clean cutout so the stance reads clearly. Save the biggest section, the main body, for last and cut it in a few passes rather than one long stroke. Support the piece from behind with your free hand as it releases so it does not tear a leg on the way out.

   Refine and add a soft glow

   Check every edge and gently clean up ragged spots with the tip of your blade. If you want the background to glow faintly instead of staying dark, use a peeling tool to shave a shallow window of skin around the deer, leaving that area dim orange. This step is optional, but it frames the bright silhouette nicely against the pumpkin.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in one or two battery LED lights, warm white or amber, and skip real candles so the thin antlers never scorch. Set the pumpkin on a step at dusk with the buck facing your visitors and check that light fills the antler tips. If any tine looks dim, add a second small light or angle it upward. A lantern or mums nearby completes the autumn porch look.
