Keeping the zones labeled now prevents accidental cutting later. Double check that the ear rings stay as closed loops so the center of each ear remains attached.

   Shave the muzzle patch to skin depth

   Before cutting anything through, use a lino or ribbon tool to peel just the orange skin off the muzzle area. Remove the skin evenly so the whole patch glows the same soft orange. Go slow and keep the flesh underneath intact, since this thin layer is what makes the gentle glow. Leave the nose shape as untouched skin so it reads as a dark spot inside the lit muzzle.

   Cut the ears, eyes, and mouth through

   Switch to a fine detail saw and cut the two ear rings, keeping each ring narrow but not razor thin so it does not crumble. Cut the two round button eyes cleanly, then the curved bow-shaped smile line. Save the largest openings for last so the face stays rigid while you work. Support the pumpkin with your free hand away from the blade, and let an adult handle all the sharp cutting.

   Light it and set it out

   Drop in an LED puck or a string of battery lights, never a candle, so the etched muzzle does not scorch. Warm white light makes the bear look cozy and true to the concept. Set it low on a step where small visitors can meet it at eye level. Snap your photo in the dark so the bright cutouts and the dim muzzle both show off their two glow levels.
