Our tips for carving a similar design

How do I keep the sucker holes from tearing into each other?

Space each hole at least a finger width apart and keep solid pumpkin between them. Punch the largest holes first near the body, then step down in size toward the tips. If two holes start to merge, stop and leave a small bridge of flesh so the arm keeps its shape.

Do I have to carve all eight tentacles?
