   Etch from dark to light

   Use a ribbon or loop tool to shave the tan areas, removing only the outer skin for a dim glow. Go deeper on the muzzle and cheek to brighten those spots, thinning the wall gradually rather than punching through. Work in the direction of the fur with short jagged strokes so the coat looks textured. Stop often and hold a light behind the wall to check your brightness.

   Cut the brightest accents last

   Once the shading reads well, cut a few small full openings only where you want the sharpest light, such as the eye glint and a sliver along the open mouth. Keep the tongue and ear tips as thin etched skin rather than cutouts so they stay strong. Leave thin skin bridges between detail lines so nothing sags. Save these true cuts for the end when the wall is otherwise intact.

   Light it and photograph

   Set a battery LED puck inside, never a candle, since the thin shaded wall can scorch. Dim the porch and let the muzzle and chest carry the glow while the saddle stays dark. Wipe away any marker lines with a damp cloth. Snap your photo at dusk for the warmest contrast.
