   Before opening any large areas, work the jagged teeth row with a small craft knife using short angled cuts. Cut each tooth as its own little triangle and leave a thin bridge of skin between neighboring points so they support each other. Take your time and let the blade do the work rather than forcing it, since forced cuts are where points snap. Keep fingers behind the blade and have an adult handle this detail work.

   Cut the body and fin

   Move to the main silhouette with a larger saw blade, cutting the body outline in sections and popping out small pieces as you go. Save the biggest openings, like the wide belly and the tail notch, for last so the pumpkin wall stays rigid while you carve. Cut the dorsal fin and the eye as separate clean shapes. Ease each piece out gently rather than pushing it inward against the fresh teeth.

   Clean up and test

   Trim any ragged edges from the back so light passes cleanly, and angle the inside edge of the cuts outward to widen the glow. Drop in a battery LED and check the shape in a dark room. If any area looks too dim, scrape the inner wall a little thinner around it. Wipe the marker lines off the front with a damp cloth.

   Stage it on the step

   Set the finished pumpkin on a dark porch step where the glowing shark stands out against the shadows. Face it toward the walkway so the teeth catch the eye from the street. Use a bright warm-white or amber LED for that classic orange glow, and skip open flames near the thin teeth. Snap your photo after dark for the strongest contrast.
