This is the slowest part, so take breaks and keep the blade sharp.

   Cut through only the spots and grass gaps

   Now make your true openings. Pierce the round spots on the cap tops and the narrow gaps between grass blades so those points shine brightest. Save these full cutouts for last so the pumpkin stays rigid while you do the delicate shading. Keep the cutouts small and leave plenty of skin around them for support.

   Light it and photograph

   Set a warm white LED puck or a battery bulb inside and close up the opening. A warm bulb pushes the cottagecore mood better than a cool white one. Photograph at dusk on a porch step so the glow shows against the darker background. Rotate the light slightly if one area looks dim and touch up any gill that needs a little more shaving.
