   Now finish the thinnest, most fragile parts: the tapering tail tip and the sharp toe and hand claws. This order protects the details that make the raptor instantly recognizable.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop a battery LED puck or string inside, not a candle, so the outline glows steadily and safely. Set the pumpkin on the front stoop at dusk and check the raptor reads clearly from the sidewalk, adjusting the light for even brightness. Wipe the cut edges and rub a little petroleum jelly on them to slow drying. Snap your photo while the sky still has a little blue for that classic porch glow.
